This will make you a better kisser

Pucker up, beautiful!

Pucker up, beautiful! Now that most of us are vaxxed and boosted, kissing is back in style. And we have a lot of catching up to do. But before you grab the nearest stranger and plant a smacker on their lips, consider all the incredible things one little smooch can do … these are our six favorite kissing facts.

  • Kissing burns calories

OK, it’s not exactly running a marathon, but the average locking of lips is thought to burn two or three calories a time. Make it steamy, and you could up that count to 24 calories a minute. Add to that the complex network of 34 facial muscles used when you canoodle, and you have yourself quite the workout.

  • Not everyone likes it

Around 10% of the world’s population don’t kiss on the lips, for reasons of hygiene or superstition. In some parts of Sudan, for instance, it is believed that the mouth is the portal to the soul, so they don’t want to invite death or have their spirit taken.

  • Kissing is good for you

Yay! Among its many benefits, it can help reduce dermatitis, improve mental health, and fight tooth decay. It could even help you live longer – one study claimed that men who kiss their wives each morning live five years longer than those who don't.

  • Your kiss is as unique as your fingerprints

The Journal of Forensic Dental Sciences says that everyone’s lip print is different and could, in theory, be used as identification in court.

  • Weird kissing laws

Men with mustaches in Indiana beware: a law exists that makes it illegal for you "to habitually kiss human beings." Just saying. In Logan County, Colorado, men are banned from kissing a woman while she’s asleep. Rightly so … it’s called consent! And in Hartford, Connecticut, kissing the wife on Sundays is off limits.

  • The best kissers have excellent oral hygiene

Take care of your mouth, and the person on the receiving end will thank you, believe us! Brush, floss, and moisturize those lips for maximum mutual pleasure.

Now you’re armed with flirty kissing facts, start flexing those facial muscles. Just make sure you ask first …
