Squalane mimics squalene, a natural oil produced by our skin. But as we age, our natural reserves diminish – hence the need to add additional moisturizers. Because squalane works like an emollient when it’s applied to the skin, it can squeeze into the spaces between skin cells, making your face feel smoother. It also seals moisture in. And since it’s derived from a naturally occurring molecule, the skin recognizes it and knows what to do with it, absorbing 10 times faster than some other plant-derived oils.

Squalene was historically harvested from shark livers, so make sure your label specifies 100% plant-derived squalane.
